A list I wish someone had handed me ten years ago:
**1.** Price tags are starting points, not final answers. "What's your best on this?" is polite and expected. Don't be shy.
**2.** Bring a loupe or a phone magnifier for marks and hallmarks. Most useful $8 you'll spend.
**3.** Cash still gets you a better deal at flea markets and estate sales. Small bills especially — nobody wants to break a hundred at 7am.
**4.** The first thirty minutes of an estate sale are for resellers with plans; the last thirty minutes are for bargain hunters. Middle hours are the dead zone.
**5.** If you're not sure, walk away and think about it. Nothing is one-of-a-kind. You'll find it again, or find something better.
What would you add?
